• WritingFix: Mentor Text Lessons...iPod s Across the Curriculum: I was intrigued by the idea of an ipod as a prompt, but knowing how interested my students were in music, and how they loved their ipods, I thought I would look at this site. There is a good lesson template in a word document on this page. The idea is very flexible and can be used for writing interpretive poems, narratives etc. Contributed by Dominic Pepper
• C·R·E·A·T·E for Mississippi >> Classroom Resouces >> Lesson Plans >> The Bing, the Bang, and the Bongo?The Five-Paragraph Essay: Bing, Bang, Bongo A program developed by CREATE for Mississippi to help organize writing. It is a great organizational tool to help writes flesh out ideas in a logical order and then transfer them into paragraph form. There is a power point created to introduce it, and something with monkeys in a barrel. The essential idea is that in the first paragraph you state the main idea from each of your detail paragraphs (the Bing, bang and bongo). Then you go into greater detail with each step for an entire paragraph, and wrap up by restating the main ideas. Moreover, the final sentence of each paragraph refers back to the thesis statement to keep the paper focused. Contributed by Dominic Pepper

• Leveled books for guided reading from Reading A-Z: Reading A-Z is a resource website that has a ton of great ideas for reading and everything associated with it. I would use this website to teach my students poetry because they have lessons that give very detailed examples of poems and how to write them. This was a struggle for me, especially when I taught my students Limericks. I've always been OK with poetry, but this will assist me in teaching them to be good at it. They also have lessons for every genre of poetry, so that helps. Contributed by Saderie Hooks
• Wacky Web Tales: I also had Houghton Mifflin textbooks, and sometimes used this website during English tutoring sessions. It's called Wacky Web Tales, and it's just an on-line version of Mad Libs. The kids really liked it, and it allowed them to interact with grammar in a different way than we did in the classroom, which was really beneficial. Contributed by Katie Nosek
• Grammar Blast: I used this website to help my kids review for grammar tests. The games are based on the Houghton Mifflin English series. My kids LOVED the games and the parents thanked me for making studying easier. It was particularly helpful for a students with dyslexia because he could increase the size of the text on the screen to easily accommodate his needs. Contributed by Elizabeth Stewart
